It will be an emotional adieu to Bengal’s beloved filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh, who passed away on May 30.
His last film Satyanweshi -- based on the adventures of the celebrated Bengali detective Byomkesh Bakshi -- is now complete.
The film will be released with a lavish premiere in Kolkata on August 30, giving Bengal’s most influential contemporary filmmaker a befitting send-off.
Interestingly, the decision to release Ghosh’s Satyanweshi comes in the wake of Dibakar Bannerjee’s decision to make a Hindi film based on the adventures of Byomkesh Bakshi with Sushant Singh Rajput
playing the detective.
According to a source close to
Satyanweshi, “A
Dussehra release was being planned for Ritu
da’s film. But we were surprised to see another director shooting a film on
Byomkesh in
Kolkata. That is when we decided to hasten the post-production.”
Apparently, director
Sujoy Ghosh, who will be seen in his first acting job as
Byomkesh, got together with the film’s cinematographer
Aveek Mukhopadhyay and editor
Arghakamal Mitra to work on the post-production in record time.
"I think it’s very good that Dibakar is also making a film on Byomkesh," Sujoy says. "There are many iconic characters in Indian literature that need to be made known on a pan-India level."
