Glimpses from the celebrations:

Subhash Ghai celebrated his 71st birthday on Saturday, January 23, a day ahead of the big day, at his acting institute, Whistling Woods, in Mumbai.

The movie mogul cuts the birthday cake with elder daughter Pooja by his side.

Jackie Shroff got his big break in Ghai's Hero. He also played stellar parts in Ghai's Karma, Ram Lakhan and Khal Nayak.

Khal Nayak also starred Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit, neither of whom were present. Dutt is in Yerawada prison, but Madhuri -- who got her first big role in Ram Lakhan -- was missing.

Adnan Sami -- who has sung for producer Ghai's Aitraaz and Joggers Park -- and Sukhvinder Singh -- who has sung many memorable numbers for Ghai like Ramta Jogi in Taal -- performed at the b-day bash.

Gulshan Grover -- who starred in Ram Lakhan, Saudagar, Ek Aur Ek Gyarah and Shaadi Se Pehle -- as flamboyant as ever.

Ghai is a close buddy of Shatrughan Sinha, who featured in his directorial debut, Kalicharan, followed by Vishwanath and Gautam Govinda.

Poonam Sinha, who ties a raakhi on Ghai, was present, but hubby Shotgun was missing.

Rohit Roy and his elder brother Ronit call Ghai 'Subhash Uncle'. Ronit Roy was absent, but Rohit turned up with wife Mansi.
