Sridevi's television debut Sridevi

After her sabbatical from films (the last was Judaai in 1997), Sridevi debuts on television in a sitcom called Hamari Bahu Malini Iyer. To be directed by Satish Kaushik (who directed the actress in Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja), the sitcom is slated to run for a year.

As for films, directors from Yash Chopra to David Dhawan are keen on signing the veteran actress. But Sridevi is not biting the bait yet. Explains husband Boney Kapoor, "Sri is busy bringing up our daughters, Janhavi and Khushi. Television will allow her the freedom of a flexible schedule which cinema cannot. But yes, she will definitely do a film in future."

Incidentally, Sridevi was called Janhavi in her last film Judaai; Khushi is Kareena Kapoor's name in the new Boney Kapoor production which opens on January 31.

Hema, Esha storm outHema Malini, Esha Deol

As soon as Malini Sharma's name was announced as Best Female Debutante at the Zee-Fairglow Cine Awards, recently, Esha Deol, who was also a nominee, was seen storming out with her mother Hema Malini.

Earlier, the duo did the unthinkable at another public function when they stood up and left in the middle of a private screening of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas. While such behaviour may not be surprising from a youngster, senior actress Hema Malini should have been more discreet in her public conduct.

Anil Kapoor has always been an unabashed fan of Kamal Haasan. Now, there's a possibility of the Kapoor coming together with Haasan in a remake of the latter's latest Tamil starrer Anbesivam, which opens on January 14.

Anil Kapoor is flying down to Chennai especially to attend the premiere. "Kamalji invited me and how could I refuse him?" Kapoor smiles.

Raakhee's busy scheduleRaakhee

Raakhee has always been very selective about her roles. Now, suddenly, there is a lot of activity in her career.

Rituparno Ghosh's Bengali film Shubho Mahurat, which opened last December had critics in Kolkata going ga-ga over Raakhee's performance -- just as they had 30 years ago, when Raakhee and Sharmila Tagore came together in Yash Chopra's Daag.

Raakhee was seen as Akshay Kumar's mother in Talaash, the first release of 2003. She will be seen again this Friday as Aishwarya Rai's mother in Dil Ka Rishta. Apparently, Vrinda Rai (Ash's mother) felt that if anyone resembles her daughter, it is Raakhee. During the shooting, Raakhee grew so fond of Ash that she now calls Ash by her character's name Tia permanently.
