R Balki, whose last film Shamitabh delved into a relationship between a star aspirant and his alter ego, has wrapped up the shooting of his next film Ki and Ka, which he says explores gender dynamics in an urban setting.

Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Kapoor, the film is all set to hit theatres in March.

Speaking of the seemingly unusual lead pairing, Balki says, “It may seem unusual from the outside but to me, it is what the film required.”

“When I made my first film Cheeni Kum,
people wondered how I could cast Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu together. They got the answer when they saw the film. Audiences will know why I got Kareena and Arjun together after they see the film.”

For Kareena, Ki and Ka is a new beginning. She has apparently gone into the darkest areas of a marriage to show the tensions in an urban marriage.

Says a source, “Kareena has borrowed scenes from her own marriage (with Saif Ali Khan). This is the first time she has used material from her own life on screen."
