Kapil Sharma: To entertain cops was a big moment for me

January 20, 2014 15:23 IST

Kapil SharmaHosting the annual police show called Umang 2014 was an emotional occasion for Kapil Sharma, as it was not like his routine public appearances.

“My father was in the police force. To be called on stage to entertain cops was a big moment for me. My father would have been proud," Kapil says. "The fact that I have fans in the police force made me feel very emotional. I could almost see my father smiling down."

The who's who of the film industry was present at the event, like Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor.

But Kapil intends to cut down on his public appearances, as he runs the risk of over-kill.

Says Kapil. “As it is, I am now doing Comedy Nights With Kapil twice a week. Believe me, that is a lot of hard work. It’s not easy to sustain the humour over two consecutive nights during the weekend. The laughter has to flow uninterrupted. And for that, I need to concentrate on the show completely.”

Kapil says the newly-revised two-day schedule leaves him no room for anything else. “I’ve no life beyond the show right now,and I enjoy that. But audiences are getting enough of me. Any more of me would mean over-exposure. So I’ve made a conscious decision not to host awards shows."

In addition, Kapil has just signed his first feature film. “I cannot talk about it but yes, it is the kind of production house and role that I’ve patiently waited for."
