Mammootty gets ready to woo the viewers this Vishu season with Bhaskar The Rascal that releases on April 15.

He faces competition from his son Dulquer Salmaan whose O K Kanmani opens two days later.

Mammootty plays a ruthless businessman with a heart of gold in Siddique’s Bhaskar The Rascal. Nayantara is the heroine.

On the other hand O K Kanmani directed by Mani Ratnam is a love story. Dulquer has been paired opposite Nitya Menen in the film.

Malayalam cinema’s young brigade in demand

Oru Vadakkan Selfie, directed by debutant G Prajith and scripted by Vineeth Sreenivasan, has been going strong from the day of its release.

Nivin Pauly seems much in demand as are other young heroes such as Prithviraj, Dulquer Salmaan and Fahadh Faasil.

The veteran stars continue to have an edge when it comes to satellite revenue. That is the main reason why filmmakers are still flocking to them.

If TV channels decide to focus on the younger stars, though, there could be some real change in the equation.
