It's a PERFECT 10 for Akshay Kumar!

August 20, 2019 10:13 IST

Akshay Kumar is enjoying a golden run at the box office.

His recent films, right from 2016's Airlift, have been major hits.

It seems that no matter what subject the actor picks up, he makes it super entertaining.

His last under-performing films were 2015's Singh Is Bliing and Brothers, and even they did a business of over Rs 80 crore each.

His latest film Mission Mangal has been declared a superhit in just a few days.

Akshay has scored a perfect ten on ten on his recent releases. Joginder Tuteja lists them here:

Airlift (2016)
Box office collection: Rs 129 crore

Akshay won a lot of critical acclaim as well as audience appreciation in Airlift.

That resulted in the film becoming a major hit, and bringing Akshay back into the Rs 100 crore club fold.

Based on a true incident, the film had the right mix of patriotism, drama and action.

Housefull 3 (2016)
Box office collection: Rs 109 crore

Akshay followed Airlift with the comedy Housefull 3, not the sort of film, which could have hoped for any critical appreciation.

But audiences did not mind and the result was a quick-fire entertainer.

It emerged as a clear hit.

Rustom (2016)
Box office collection: Rs 128 crore

In the same year, Akshay returned with the courtroom drama Rustom, another film inspired from a real-life incident, and all set to bring in the critical appreciation.

Besides a courtroom drama, Rustom packed in a love story as well.

The songs were popular and the film became quite popular among the audiences.

It did similar business as Airlift.

Jolly LLB 2 (2017)
Box office collection: Rs 117 crore

Akshay started 2017 with Jolly LLB 2.

Like Rustom, this was a courtroom drama too, but with a difference.

This time, Akshay played a corrupt lawyer, who has a change of heart.

The film did almost three times the business of the Arshad Warsi-starrer-Jolly LLB. Now, one keenly awaits Jolly LLB 3.

Toilet - Ek Prem Katha (2017)
Box office collection: Rs 134.25 crore

Akshay set his next story in a village, and took up the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan initiative in Toilet - Ek Prem Katha.

He propagated the message of building toilets in every home.

The film did really good business.

PadMan (2018)
Box office collection: Rs 81.82 crore

Akshay then wanted the country to become conscious about hygiene and picked up the taboo subject of menstruation.

Though many wondered if the film would have a commercial appeal, Akshay proved everyone wrong as PadMan became a decent success.

The film also won a National Award.

Gold (2018)
Box office collection: Rs 105 crore

Akshay released one of his most ambitious films Gold on Independence Day, and it became the superstar's biggest opener till date.

Surprisingly though, after a very good start, the film did not sustain as strongly as one would have imagined.

Still, the opening collections ensured that the Rs 100 crore mark was crossed.

2.0 (Hindi) (2018)
Box office collection: Rs 189 crore

There were big bucks awaiting Akshay when 2.0 arrived.

While in the original language Tamil, the film saw good collections, what was remarkable was the kind of numbers it gathered in the dubbed Hindi version.

Akshay played a villain in this sci-fi entertainer, which is his biggest grosser till date.

Kesari (2019)
Box office collection: Rs 154.42 crore

The year 2019 has been fantastic for Akshay, with Kesari setting the tone.

The film started well, sustained well and kept collecting till it went past the Rs 150 crore mark.

As a warrior, Akshay impressed in this patriotic action drama.

Mission Mangal (2019)
Box office collection: Rs 150 crore+ expected

What Kesari couldn't do, Mission Mangal is set to do in the days to come.

The film has not just taken the best opening for an Akshay Kumar starrer, it has also scored his best ever weekend.

The first week record is also in sight and soon enough, it may emerge as his biggest Hindi grosser.

Will it surpass the lifetime of 2.0? Let's wait and watch.
