Ethan HawkeEthan Hawke is ashamed.

In an interview to American television network, ABC, msn.com quotes the star as saying: 'It is very difficult for any couple who are married if both people have -- are -- very ambitious. I don't know if it's just too hard to be married to a woman that wants to be a movie star. I know that she has that right to want that.'

After five years of being together, Hawke admits that fame brings with it its own evil. 'Everybody knows it. You know, you hate to have your grandfather read about it... that's what makes you feel ashamed, you know... It's like, this is our marriage... and now there's all these other voices in the room.'

He and Thurman are parents of daughter Maya Ray and son Levon. The two acted together in Gattaca and Tape.

Hawke will next be seen in Before Sunset, Richard Linklater's sequel to Before Sunrise (1995), opposite Julie Delpy.

Uma Thurman, star of Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill: Vol 1, will be seen in the second instalment of the movie on April 16.
