Subhash Ghai recently launched the music of his latest film Ek Aur Ek Gyarah at a municipal school in Mumbai's suburban Bandra. He also announced he would donate 11,000 stationery sets to children from different schools in the city. 
The six tracks of the album have been penned by Sameer in the voices of K K, Sonu Nigam and Abhijit. It is composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. At the launch, Ghai said, "Ek aur ek hote hai gyarah. Yeh Hindi ka ek muhavrah hota hai [One plus one equals 11 is a Hindi proverb]. It tells us how, with love, friendship and effort, one is no longer alone. This film is for the masses. Instead of having the usual bash with celebrities, this is my way of sharing it with a talented bunch of kids."
It is another matter that the children had to wait under the sun for two-and-half hours for the heroes Sanjay Dutt and Govinda. The latter made his entry after the children finished with some song and dance numbers. The moment he entered, the children rushed towards him. The actor then waved out and sang with them.
He sang from Hum and even offered advice on how they should be 'ek aur ek gyarah with their parents, friends and family.'
Director David Dhawan, whose last hit was the Govinda-Sanjay Dutt starrer Jodi No 1 (2001), is obviously hoping for a repeat. "Ek Aur Ek Gyarah is a fun film with action, drama and comedy," he says. "Besides, working with Sanju and Govinda is like working with family. This film is a fun entertainer. It is like a typical David Dhawan film with [presenter] Subhashji's touch." 
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy claimed they were happy to do a different kind of work. "This is an out-and-out commercial film and the music had to be made keeping David Dhawan's touch in mind. But yes, it does have our melody and subtlety, too. Subhash Ghai has a very good ear for music. He must have been a musician in his last birth! We have done our bit. Now it is time to pray," says Shankar Mahadevan.
Govinda, whose career rests on this film, what with all his recent films sinking at the box-office, says, "We have made [this film] with a lot of hard work. I hope the audience appreciates it."
The film is slated for an April release.
