Ranbir Kapoor plays a dacoit in Yash Raj Films' Shamshera.

The 35-year-old actor will feature in an YRF movie after 9 years, after Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.

Shamshera will be directed by Agneepath Director Karan Malhotra.

'Shamshera is exactly the film I was looking for. While growing up watching Hindi commercial cinema, I had an image of what a film hero should be doing. Shamshera allows me to do everything that I had imagined and it's a very exciting project for me,' Ranbir said in a statement.

'Karan is going to take me completely out of my comfort zone and I'm looking forward to this challenge,' he added.

In the first look of the film, Ranbir can be seen as a fierce dacoit carrying an axe and a quiver full of arrows.

Shamshera will go on the floors at the end of the year and shooting will wrap by mid-2019.

Ranbir, who will next be seen in the Sanjay Dutt biopic Sanju, is currently working on Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra, which features him as a superhero.
