Actor Suresh Gopi has made a successful comeback to the movies. He will be seen next in Shankar’s hugely awaited film I.

In this exclusive interview, Suresh Gopi talks to Vijay George/ Rediff.com about the film.

Though everyone knows you are acting in I, there aren’t any details.

I can’t talk much about the character. The director is aware of the speculation and discussions that are going on, but he doesn’t want me to talk about it.

Are you happy about your role in the film?

All that was settled before I entered into the contract.

I am very happy because I am aware of Shankar’s talent and what he is capable of.

You were not at the music launch of the film and that sparked rumours that you were not invited.

I have no worries.
They have no worries either. We are all together and we are all very happy about what is going on.

You have played a humorous role in the Malayalam film The Dolphins. What was it like playing the loud businessman and using that peculiar slang?

I really enjoyed playing the character. I always wanted to do more comedy roles.

I would say finally I had my share of it, or even a major bite.

Since you’ve returned to films after a break, you have not played those gun-toting characters you played in the past.

(Laughs) When I came back, viewers expected the return of my character Bharat Chandran or that kind of role.

But I feel this is a different kind of entertainment. I am happy with the response to my films.

Do you miss playing those larger-than-life characters?

It is always good to take a break and then come back with more strength. You can access things from a different point of view.

That energy is growing inside me and I could be seen playing such roles soon.

You have also been actively involved in politics off the screen.

More than political, mine is a nationalistic stance. I feel nationalism is the basic essence of my statements or revolts.
