Nagendra Magadi has directed many Kannada comedy hits. Most of the films were inspired by successful non-Kannada films but Magadi took credit for writing the script. But in his latest film Chickpete Sachagalu, director S Narayan writes the script. Narayan also stars in the film, sharing the screen with the king of comedy Jaggesh [Images] -- the combination worked well in the mildly successful Honey Moon [Images] Express.

Chickpete Sachagalu has a good script but Magadi has not been able to get the right flavour from his artistes and technicians. S Narayan puts in a good performance, and writes a good screenplay but disappoints in his music.

The story has no logic, and the sequences have been seen in earlier films. Still, the twists are enjoyable.

Nani and Jaggi are the sons of Chandrashekhar, a trickster, who has cheated many people including his son's in-laws. Chandrashekhar works out a plan to cheat Dodda, an NRI businessman. He lures his sons to marry Dodda's daughters. What happens later is a story of escapades and confusion.

Jaggesh and Narayan make a good combination and have tried every trick in the book to make people laugh. Veteran actor Mukyamanthri Chandru takes the cake with his lively performance. Journalist Suresh Chandra and Doddanna have done a good job. The two leading ladies, Manasi and Rashmi, have neither talent nor the ability to match the histrionics of the comedy actors.

Chickpete Sachagalu may not be the best comedy film but it's time pass fare.
