L K Advani wishes Rahman February 24, 2009 17:43 IST Last Updated: February 24, 2009 17:47 IST
The whole world is goning ga-ga over Slumdog Millionaire [Images]'s victory at the 81st Annual Academy Awards. L K Advani [Images] congratulated the team for winning eight Oscars. "After the 26/11 terror attacks, Mumbai [Images] is once again in global focus. But this time, for a happy moment," said Advani, a film buff himself. The BJP leader said since he has not seen the film, he will not comment about the negative and positive responses it has evoked, "but, I am sure, its global success is an important landmark in the history of Indian cinema." He said he was impressed by A R Rahman ever since the time of Roja [Images] when Dil hai chota sa, choti si asha became a huge success. "I was sure that Rahman will achieve much more success at an international level. I am happy that the day has finally come," he said referring to the two Oscars - Best Original Score and Best Song (Jai Ho) - Rahman won. The Jai Ho song continued its effect at a function where Advani was felicitated with a silver conch and a bronze statue of Shivaji Maharaj.
