Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan [Images], who is undergoing treatment for abdominal pain at Lilavati hospital, is in a stable condition and the tests conducted on him do not suggest any abnormality, doctors attending on him said on Sunday.

Bachchan on Saturday underwent a blood investigation and CT scan of the abdomen.

"Amitabh Bachchan had a restful night and doctors attending on him are pleased with his recovery. The tests do not suggest any abnormality. Under the circumstances medicines have worked and within a few days he should go home," Dr Narendra Trivedi, Vice President of Lilavati hospital said.

Earlier in the morning, the actor's son Abhishek came to the hospital and was informed by a team of doctors about the line of treatment and the medication being given to his ailing father.

Suffering from suspected bowel dysfunction

Bachchan is being treated for suspected bowel dysfunction, hospital sources said.

Bachchan "has been put on Ryles Tube for suspected bowel dysfunction," sources said.

"We have already performed ECG and 2D Echo to assess his heart condition. While ECG has been found to be normal, dystolic dysfunction has been detected on 2D Echo," the sources said.

"If required, Mr Bachchan could undergo ultrasonography (USG) and CT scan for his abdominal problem shortly", the sources said, adding that "his blood test reports are still awaited."

Sources said the megastar, who is in suite number 1101, was initially being put in the more expensive suite 1106 in which his late mother Teji Bachchan was admitted, but he opted for the present one.

While suite 1106 costs Rs 12,500 per day, the rent for suite 1101 is Rs 8,500, sources said.
