Sundar C takes on Rajnikanth

AVM's Rajni-starrer Murattukkalai, released more than 25 years ago, and which catapulted Tamil actor Rajnikanth [Images] to his present superstar status, is now being remade with Sundar C playing Rajni's role. Rajni and AVM productions have reportedly given their consent for the remake.

The remake will also mark the return of producer Gunanidhi, who runs Kalaignar TV. A close relative of the chief minister, Gunanidhi returns to the scene after more than 10 years with his Soorya Productions. "After dabbling in tele-serial and tele-film production and a stint with Kalaignar TV, I'm back to where I belong," he said.

The film will go on floors on December 1 with the shooting of the famous fighting sequence on a moving train. Cinematographer Santonio will be using special helicopters to shoot the cave, sand and train scenes.

An excited Sundar C said, "I would like to do an Ajit, who followed his own style in the remake of Billa. I am not as tensed as people might expect me to be".

Sundar C is at ease, as Selvabharathy, the director has been the dialogue writer for many of his films.

Sneha is paired opposite Sundar C for the first time and will be playing Rathi's role in the original version. Vivek (in Surlirajan's role) and Suman (in Jai Shankar's role) are the other major actors. The search is on for the other artistes.

The film will have music by Srikantha Deva and will be shot extensively in Senkottai, Courtrallam, Pollachi, Madurai [Images], Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and also abroad (song sequences).

The highlight is bound to be the remix of the song 'Poduvaga Yen Manasu Thangam'.
