Legendary director Kamal Amrohi's daughter has filed a defamation suit against lyricist Nida Fazli. He had written an article in a leading Urdu newspaper a month ago, portraying Amrohi as a 'womaniser, a selfish and an ungrateful man.'

"Amrohi's daughter Rukhsar thinks it is blatantly false and defamatory and so a suit has been filed," said her lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui, adding that he was going to look into articles that were written by Fazli during Amrohi's lifetime and find if those were defamatory as well.

Amrohi is best known for directing classics like Mahal and Pakeezah.

Fazli has written lyrics for films like Razia Sultan, Is Raat ki Subah Nahi, Sur, Yatra and Sarfarosh among others.

"Excerpts of Fazli's article in the paper stated that Shorab Modi, who had given a break to Amrohi, was ill-treated by the director," Siddique said. "It also portrayed Amrohi to be a completely self-centered man. Who has given Fazli the authority to write like this against Kamal Amrohi?"

Fazli has written about the director's personal life highlighting Amrohi's relationship with his wife, Meena Kumari, his 'lack of concern for everyone and self-centred attitude,' which are totally untrue, the lawyer added.

The matter is likely to come up for hearing in June.
