Durgesh Nandini goes Bhojpuri

Srabanti Chakrabarti | April 21, 2008 13:04 IST

Rinku Ghosh

Rinku Ghosh, the star of Sony Entertainment Television's soap, Durgesh Nandini, became famous overnight, as the righteous village belle. Unfortunately, the serial did not do well and soon went off air. And now, Rinku has bid adieu to the television industry and is concentrating on Bhojpuri movies.

"I am shooting for two Bhojpuri films, Vidaai and Gobar Singh. I will star opposite Ravi Kishen and Manoj Tiwari respectively," says the Bengali actress.

"I was enjoying Durgesh Nandini a lot. Unfortunately, it did not become as popular as I had expected. Once it went off air, I had two options -- wait for the right Bollywood role or return to Bhojpuri movies," she adds.

"I had done a number of Bhojpuri films earlier and knew the industry pretty well," she continues. "Though it may sound downmarket, the Bhojpuri film industry is one of the biggest in the country today. There are some highly creative people working there. It is also one of the best paying film industries in the country. I was getting good offers; it would have been foolish if I ignored them."

Rinku has been associated with the Bengali film industry as well, and hopes to do more Bengali films too, in future.

Good thinking, Rinku. It's better to be a big fish in a small pond rather than be a non-entity in a large one!
