What is it about women-oriented movies? Why do they -- more often than not, that is -- end up as box-office duds?

For example, one recent dud was Yash Raj's Laaga Chunari Main Daag, starring Rani Mukherji and Konkona Sen Sharma [Images].

In the past too, woman-centric films have not fared well at the BO. Examples: Sherni, Sultana, Zakhmi Aurat and Umrao Jaan [Images] (starring Aishwarya Rai [Images] Bachchan).

Though there are exceptions like Mother India, Damini, Mrityudand and Lajja, they are far and few.

And now with Madhuri Dixit's [Images] Aaja Nachle releasing this Friday, we thought it is the right time to ask you, dear reader, if Bollywood films always need a hero to do well?
