Ever heard of fans dictating how a film ending should be?

Well, this was the case with Tamil film Kireedam, starring Ajith [Images]. A remake of Mohanlal's Malayalam film with the same name, the Ajith-starrer now has a different end.

In the original, the hero's dreams get shattered at the end. Even though Ajith's subtle performance in the remake has been appreciated by the critics, it seems the hero, who becomes a loser in the end, has not gone down well with Ajith's fans. So the filmmakers have been forced to change the end of the film.
 
The new ending shows Ajith killing the criminal while a voiceover says that the court has pardoned him. The last shot of the film shows Ajith in a police uniform saluting his father.
 
It just goes to show that if you're a superstar, you cannot afford to be a loser. That's why films like Paruthiveeran, which star new faces, can have tragic endings but not Kireedam.
