Ignore misinformation, says J K Rowling

rediff Entertainment Bureau | July 19, 2007 14:25 IST

The final instalment of a series that has bewitched a generation across the globe, Harry Potter [Images] and the Deathly Hallows, is hours away.

And by now, many purported spoilers are out there on the World Wide Web.

On her website, author J K Rowling has a note for millions of fans around the globe: ignore the misinformation.

Also Read: The magic of Harry Potter

'We are almost there!' the note reads. 'As launch night looms, let's all, please, ignore the misinformation popping up on the web and in the press on the plot of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I'd like to ask everyone who calls themselves a Potter fan to help preserve the secrecy of the plot for all those who are looking forward to reading the book at the same time on publication day. In a very shot time, you will know EVERYTHING!'

Meanwhile, the purported spoilers have been flourishing on image hosting sites. And if you combine the number of people dead in the different versions of the 'spoilers' -- Rowling has said two characters she didn't intend to die get killed -- hardly anyone good would be left alive!

WARNING: THE HARRY POTTER DISCUSSION BOARDS BELOW ARE LIKELY TO REVEAL PLOT DETAILS AND SPOILERS FROM THE NEW BOOK. POTTER FANS WHO HAVE NOT YET READ THE BOOK ARE ADVISED NOT TO SCROLL DOWN.
