'Rajni Sir enjoyed Chennai 600028'

How is it doing everywhere?

It is doing very well in all the main cities but not that good in the rural areas. Anybody who has played tennis ball cricket on streets can easily identify with the film.

I got a call from Coimbatore the other day and the guy said it was his story. A 56-year old Chennaite told me that Chennai 600028 took him back to his childhood days, and after watching the film, he called his old cricket mates and had a get together! It fills me with happiness to hear such stories.

Is the film autobiographical?

I also have played street cricket and the characters are drawn from the people I know. In fact, we still play street cricket. It is the Chennai culture; you cannot grow up without playing street cricket.

When I was a kid, there was a team called 'Evergreen' which I have based my characters from. Ezhimalai, the ambulance driver, a man who has a provision store, another guy who works in a coffee shop...the list is endless.
