Director S Narayan, known for his sentimental family dramas like Sirivantha, Suryavamsha and Sevanthi Sevanthi, has come out with a neat entertainer once again.

Thaayiya Madilu is packaged with all the necessary ingredients in the right proportions. That is the success of the movie. It has rich production values, good family sentiments, clean enjoyable comedy in the first half, beautifully shot songs and, of course, well-choreographed fights.

The film will most certainly satisfy Shivaraj Kumar's innumerable fans, who are eagerly looking forward to this film after the debacle of Kumara Rama.

The story revolves around Nanda. He is brought up by his music teacher father. But one day he discovers that the woman he revered was not his mother. Then his father tells him that he too is his guardian. But he refuses to reveal the identity of his parents. Nanda decides search for his biological parents. He discovers that he was abandoned by his mother soon after birth because a godman told his father he would be killed by his own son.

Nanda does not reveal his identity to his parents. He instead saves his father many times to gain his confidence. Nanda rescues his parents from the cruel designs of his own relatives and finally the truth is revealed.

A special highlight of the film is the touching moment between Shivaraj Kumar and Jayasudha, who plays his mother. Shivaraj Kumar's characterisation is consistent; the dialogues are crisp and clear. Though some of the comedy sequences in the first half seem a little unreal they are certainly enjoyable -- Rakshitha has done full justice to her role.

Shivaraj Kumar looks extremely good on screen; his stylish costumes, dance movements and fights are a delight to watch. He is good in the sentimental sequences too.

Jayasudha who has returned to Kannada films after a long gap delivers a performance that reflects maturity. Rakshitha adds liveliness with the comedy sequences though she looks older than Shivaraj Kumar in the song sequences. Doddanna is certainly the best among the character artists.

Photography by P K H Doss is top class. But but S A Raj Kumar's musical score is below par. However, his background score and Soundarrajan's crisp editing are the highlights in the technical department.

Thaayiya Madilu is a film worth enjoying in this cool winter.
