Are Bollywood scriptwriters bored with women?

It's been a year of spectacular Hindi cinema, but noticably one that has seen heroines sidelined almost entirely. Not one of the year's top successes feature women in significant, key roles. And before you mention Kareena Kapoor in Omkara, remember that credit for her Desdemona goes to William Shakespeare, not any of our screenplay writers.

2006 saw our women in a slew of insignificant roles while the men preened for the cameras, walking about shirtless, crying and martyring themselves. At best, the girls were eye candy.

What do you think, dear reader? Isn't there room for heroine-oriented cinema anymore? Is Bollywood best left to the boys?
