Aamir Khan's criticism of the resettlement process of those displaced by the Narmada dam project has angered leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party whose cadres in Gujarat have decided to teach the star a lesson by burning posters of his new film Fanaa and disrupt its screening in multiplexes.

Though the BJP top brass has not reacted to Khan's statements, one of its senior leaders, a close friend of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, could not resist commenting on the issue.

"I think Aamir has been foolish," he said. "He is being misled by some elements. He neither has the background of social work that Shabana Azmi has nor does he understand the issue. He has been making provocative statements when the issue could be sorted out amicably."

According to the BJP leader, there was no need for Aamir to issue statements on the Narmada dam.

"Did he say anything when Hindus were massacred in Doda in Kashmir or any other issue? The issue of water is very close to the hearts of Gujaratis, and they get provoked when someone talks against the Narmada project. My advice is he should lie low and let the controversy blow over," the BJP leader said.
