Five great Malayalam movies Bollywood should make

Sukrutham (1994)
Starring: Mammootty, Manoj K Jayan and Gautami
Director: Harikumar

What the film is about: Focuses on a journalist played by Ravishekar Mammootty. He is happily married to Gautami. But he is suddenly diagnosed with cancer and has just a few days to live.

He makes up his mind to solve all his wife's problems before he goes. Closest friend (Manoj K Jayan) is entrusted with the task of becoming friendly with his wife so they can marry later. He informs all of his plan and melts away for a far off destination.

Then the twist in the plot: his yoga teacher, who practices Ayurveda, does a spot of research and discovers a cure for his disease. Mammootty is delighted and returns home, happy to be healthy again. Bu at home his wife is waiting for his death so that she can marry his friend. Even his office has prepared an obituary and has started looking for a replacement.

Sukrutham is based on a short story by Gyanpeet-award winning writer M T Vasudevan. The film won the National Best Film Award in the regional category. It also won that year's National Award for Best Music for Bombay Ravi and the National Award for Best Background Score for Johnson.

Why it should be remade: After the success of Dor, which is also a remake of Malyalam film Perumazhakalam, Sukrutham is sure to be well received. Parallel cinema these days has found its takers with the arrival of multiplexes and that's why it could be next Dor.

More than that, the quirky plot is sure to work with audiences. It is hard to decide which character to give your sympathy too in this film although Mammootty is sure to get the lion's share of it.

The perfect Bollywood cast: Shiney Ahuja (Mammootty), Konkana Sensharma (Gautami) and Shreyas Talpade (Manoj K Jayan). Nagesh Kuknoor should direct this one too.
