Like Baghban, you have made Amitabh sing in Baabul as well. Was it to help music sales?
If there is a song where emotions are required, then the actor -- if he can sing -- would be the best because he knows the character inside out.
When the actor sings an emotional song, it becomes more emotional because he acts with it, feels with it. Amit has also composed one of the songs. He gave us an idea for a tune, which is the title track of the movie. Amit, Aadesh (Shrivastava) and I are very close. Amit comes to our music sessions, and we have fun fooling around and talking about music.
But though Amitabh was supposed to sing the song he composed, it was eventually sung by Jagjit Singh...
There is no controversy in this. One section of the song was going to be in Jagjit Singh's voice and the other in Amit's voice. Unfortunately, Amit was not in town (when we were making the song) and when he came back, he was very busy and could not sing for it. We could not wait anymore; the music needs to be out at least one and a half months before the film's release. But Amit's song has been recorded and it will be present in the second lot of music.
