Subhash Ghai's latest production, the much-loved hit Iqbal, will open the Kara International Film Festival in Karachi on Friday.

The film has Shreyas Talpade [Images], Shweta Prasad Naseeruddin Shah [Images] in the lead roles, and is directed by Nagesh Kukunoor.

Iqbal will be followed by a retrospective of Subhash Ghai [Images] films like Kisna, Taal [Images], Khalnayak and Pardes.

Ghai, who is presently at the International Film Festival of India in Goa [Images], said, "We appreciate the government of Pakistan's gracious gesture by screening Indian films at the film festival to show to people of Pakistan who love Indian movies. The Kara Festival will do a lot in the coming years to strengthen our relationship."

This is the filmmaker's first goodwill visit to Pakistan.

The festival will end on December 10.
