'Guru Dutt often fell in love'

Patcy N | October 12, 2004 12:10 IST

BR ChopraB R Chopra, the acclaimed director, speaks about Guru Dutt and his films.

Guru Dutt was a very wonderful man. He was one of the finest people associated with films. He was a friend of mine and I used to love him. Guru Dutt was a fantastic, romantic kind of person, and often fell in love.

His direction was excellent and, I must say, his films looked beautiful. The main strengths I felt in his movies were the music, and all the songs were good. It was very strange that he was such a serious person practically, but in all the films he made, the songs were beautiful.

I used to meet him at the studios, but he was a slightly secluded person, quite different. His films Pyaasa and Kaagaz Ke Phool were excellent, and are my favourites.
