Whitney Houston in drug rehab

rediff Entertainment Bureau | March 17, 2004 13:16 IST

Whitney HoustonGrammy-award winner Whitney Houston, 40, is presently in drug rehab, according to People magazine.

Her publicist Nancy Seltzer refused to divulge more than the fact that she entered rehab on March 15.

Houston had once said in an interview that she had used drugs earlier but survived through prayer. But the singer, who claimed to have partied a lot, denied that she used crack cocaine.

In January 2000, less than half an ounce of marijuana and three partially smoked marijuana cigarettes were found in Houston's bag. The next year, the drug charge was dismissed after a drug counsellor told prosecutors 'the singer did not require treatment for substance abuse'.

Meanwhile, Houston's husband of 12 years, singer Bobby Brown has been sentenced to prison for 60 days for violating probation last month.
