The response for our Best Actor 2004 poll was overwhelming, and the race was hotly contested.

The results are now out. Read on to see if your selection made it to the top.

Here are the five best actors of 2004, chosen by rediff.com readers worldwide.

5. Salman Khan

The shirtless wonder strikes again. The year has really been a return to form for Sallu. The erratic rebel seems to have grown up, embracing relative sobriety, and speaking to the media with rare frankness.

This year he arrived with a bang at the box-office, his films succeeding despite a sea of opposing critics. Non-believers may scoff, but reviews don't a star break. Audiences just can't seem to get enough of Salman, and it shows.

We saw a slew of unrelated films -- successful macho madness in Garv: Pride And Honour; a powerful performance in the saccharine Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha; frothy comedy in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi; and strong sensitivity in the AIDS movie, Phir Milenge.

Not to mention his ever-colourful love life, now hotting up with the stunning Katrina Kaif.

Don't Miss!
