The Magnificent Seven composer passes away

Oscar winner Elmer Bernstein died on August 19 at his home in California. He was 82.

The composer scored music for such classics as The Ten Commandments, The Magnificent Seven, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Great Escape and True Grit.

The exact cause of his death is not known, but the composer had suffered a long illness.

His last major work was Todd Hayne's Far From Heaven (2002), which won his his 14th Oscar nomination. Bernstein, who started his career in the 1950s, has around 200 films to his credit.

He is survived by wife Eve, daughters Elizabeth and Emilie, sons Peter and Gregory and five grandchildren.
