Set in pre-Independence India, Pinjar deals with the horrors of Partition.

Mostly, Pinjar tells the journey of a naïve Punjabi girl Puro (Urmila Matondkar). A few days before her marriage to Ram Chand (Sanjay Suri), a man named Rashid (Manoj Bajpai) abducts her.

She is forced to embrace Islam. Puro thus becomes Hamida.

A quiet revolution begins to stir in Puro's mind. What makes Puro an unlikely heroine forms the crux of the story.
