Aishwarya Rai (right) is in good spirits at the 56th International Cannes Film Festival 2003 despite her bandaged left foot. She had met with an accident on the sets of Rajkumar Santoshi's Khakee. She is looking forward to her first international film, Bride And Prejudice, to directed by Gurinder Chadha (left).

Chadha, too, is in a happy frame of mind; her last release, Bend It Like Beckham, is a phenomenal success. At last count, the film (which cost $4.5 million) grossed $15.1 million in the US alone. It topped the British box office and is on the US Top 10 chart for the last three weeks.
