Actor Vivek Oberoi, who fractured his leg while shooting for a Mani Ratnam film in Kolkata, will undergo surgery at Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital on Thursday evening.

Vivek Oberoi in Hinduja HospitalDr Sanjay Agarwala, who will operate upon Vivek, said his team had two options -- put the actor's injured leg in a cast or carry out corrective surgery. Vivek's family opted for the latter since surgery would ensure better alignment of the broken bone, he said.

Dr Agarwala said Vivek would be able to walk with the help of crutches in a day or two after the surgery.

He said this type of surgery is called 'inter-locking nailing' in medical parlance and the broken bone will take at least three months to heal.

The operation is likely to last one-and-a-half hours, Dr Agarwala said.
