'I am greedy, there is so much I want to do'

January 13, 2003 14:25 IST

Esha Deol has had no hits to her credit as yet. Her first three films, Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche, Na Tum Jaano Na Hum and Kya Dil Ne Kahaa, were disasters at the box-office.Esha Deol

Which explains why, on the eve of the release of her fourth film, Kucch Toh Hai, directed by Anil Kumar, actors Dharmendra and Hema Malini's elder daughter has a sea of expectations to meet.

Inspired by the successful Hollywood film, I Know What You Did Last Summer, this campus thriller also stars Tusshar Kapoor, who is also hoping it will boost his career, after his last clunker Jeena Sirf Merre Liye.

Esha's next film Chura Liya Hai Tumne sees her opposite debutant Zayed Khan, Sanjay Khan's son. She tells Arti R she is greedy now to do all kinds of roles:

Tell us about your role in Kucch Toh Hai.

I play Tanya, a studious college student who has a lot of boys running after her. It's not the role but the script that is important. The script is very strong and revolves around six friends. The storyline and characterisations are the key points of the film.

Do you identify with your character in the film?

I am nowhere close to this girl. I am not studious and prim and proper in real life, like my role.

You have an interesting song Yeh mera dil.

All the songs are nice. I really like the music [by Anu Maliik]. We had a blast shooting for Yeh mera dil. It is this 1970s kind of pop song. Tusshar and I are really lucky as far songs and dances are concerned. We tune with each other and dance really well together.

Is the film a copy of I Know What You Did Last Summer?

People feel it is a copy because of the person with the hood that is shown in the [television] promos. But while Kucch To Hai is in the genre of those films, it is definitely not a copy of any of those movies. It is a fast-paced, racy thriller.

It is a Bollywood film, very connected with Indian values.

What was it working with Tusshar a second time?

Tusshar and I get along like a house on fire. We are great friends. Since we started acting at the same time, we can look back and actually see how much we have grown.

Just today, we were discussing how differently we would do scenes then and now.A still from Kucch Toh Hai

We have great fun on the sets. While shooting for a song today, I was sitting on a sofa and Tusshar had to run around me in circles. The floor was slippery and Tusshar tripped. That was so funny!

Does the fact that your earlier film with Tusshar flopped worry you?

I was already shooting for Kucch To Hai when Kya Dil Ne Kahaa released. It is not something I have thought about. There is nothing that I regret about the film. I have given my best. Whatever happens will happen.

Any dream roles?

I would love to do all of them. I am extremely greedy. There is so much I want to do. I have too many dreams to fulfill. I hope I can fulfill them in this lifetime.

Are you happy with the way your career is shaping up?

I am very focused and working extremely hard. Movies are part of my life.

I enjoy classical dancing and working out. Earlier I used to have more hobbies which I cannot pay attention to now because movies take up all my time.
