Kamal, the creative innovator

Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan has proved he is a creative innovator.
The invite for his new film Sandiyar is in the form of an FIR (First Information Report). The invite-- rather the FIR -- filed against Virumaandi (Kamal Haasan) on November 7, 2000, sayshe has killed four villagers and is booked under Section 302 CrPC. Like his highly successful Thevar Magan, Sandiyarhas a rural subject, the story and screenplay written by Kamal Haasan. He willalsodon the director's cap.
Sandiyar is the story of two feuding families --of Virumaandi (Kamal Haasan) and Nallamanaiker (Napolean).
Nasserplays a cop in the film. Abhirami, the actress from Kerala, is the heroine.
The film will be launched at the Medical College grounds in Madurai,April 18.
Suhasini successful in Malayalam
The relationship between Suhasini and Malayalam films is that of mutual respect and affection. Whenever there is a good female role, Malayalam filmmakers even today think of Suhasini.
She recently acted asthe not-so-young heroine in Mohanlal's Vaanaprasatham directed by Shaji N Karun, which was followed by an award-winning performance (Kerala State Award) in Theerthadanam opposite Jayaram as a poor, middle-aged woman.
One of the big hits of 2003 is a campus story from director Kamal, Nammal. Suhasini has a meaty role in the film as the principal of the college. Since Nammal is a success, it is said Malayalam directors are writing roles specially for Suhasini.
Revathy also in Malayalam
Though she started as a young college girl in Bharatan's Kaattathe Kilikkoodu opposite Mohanlal, Revathy did not do as many roles in Malayalam as Suhasini did.
If Suhasini had more films opposite Mammootty, Revathy was mostly paired with Mohanlal.
A surprise hit of 2003 was a small budget film Nandanam, starring youngsters Prithviraj (the late actor Sukumaran's son) and Navya Nair (who won this year's Kerala State award for her performance in the film as Balamani).
Revathy is Prithiviraj's mother in the film.
Suhasini and Revathy will be together in Viji Thampy's Fifty Fifty. Once again, Revathy is the 20-year-old Prithviraj's mother. Acting as Suhasini's son is Prithviraj's elder brother Indrajit.
In Fifty Fifty, Suhasini is Rose Alex, a bureaucrat, while Revathy is the wife of a bureaucrat played by Balachandran Menon.
The film set against an engineering college and bureaucracy, is eagerly awaited, mainly because of the star cast.
Rs 300 crore loss
A recent report says only six Tamil films made a profit in2002. Thegross loss of all the other films made last year is close to Rs 300 crore!
The amount spent as payment to the 'stars': Rs 100 crore!
