Urmila

For someone who has no formal training in dance, Urmila Matondkar sure knows how to move.

You only have to see her dance sequences in films like Rangeela, Daud, China Gate and Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya to realise that.

Known for her graceful, stylish moves, choreographers like Saroj Khan have openly confessed to enjoy working with Urmila. 'You only have to show her the step once. Urmila is that quick. I haven't many other actresses besides Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi who are so fast on the uptake, as far as dance is concerned. Rhythm is in her blood,' said Khan about Urmila.

Good occasion to present some of star' best dance sequences:

Rangeela re (Rangeela)
Ram Gopal Varma's Rangeela not only showcased Urmila's emoting capabilities, it also provided her with a perfect platform to display her dancing skills.

Be it Tanha tanha or the sensuous moves of Hai Rama, it was Urmila's show all the way. Her solo dance in the hit track Rangeela re proved most popular.

The song had simple steps, coupled with Asha Bhosle's lively rendition and a trendy Urmila changing into a different wardrobe in every frame.

Zahreela (Daud)
Technically, the steamy number, Zahreela wasn't a typical dance sequence. Yet Urmila's ingeniously Gothic-inspired looks, animalistic body language and fierce eyes took centerstage, while the cave settings and hero Sanjay Dutt were reduced to mere props.

Her uninhibited act in this on-the-run caper enjoyed a lot of attention from Urmila's fans.

Sabki baaratein aayi (Jaanam Samjha Karo)
In Janam Samjha Karo, Urmila played a nightclub dancer, which gave her a lot of scope to shake a leg.

Her jazzy and elaborate dance steps with Salman Khan in tow in Jaanam samjha karo drew in the frontbenchers.

But it was the intricate nuances Sabki baaratein aayi that proved that she could do classical numbers too.

Chamma chamma (China Gate)
Urmila's zingy Chamma chamma provided light relief in Raj Kumar Santoshi's China Gate.

Clad in much silver jewellery, her jhatkas in this item number lured the audiences.

After seeing her spellbinding performance, Santoshi roped Urmila in for another special song and dance appearance in Lajja's Aaiye.

Qayamat (Deewane)
In an interview once, Urmila revealed that her costar Ajay Devgan finds it hard to believe that she is not a trained dancer.

Devgan, who isn't exactly dancing material himself, stood agape as Urmila swayed seductively in the Qayamat song sequence in Harry Baweja's Deewane.

Kambakth ishq (Pyar Tune Kya Kiya)
Urmila rocked along with Fardeen Khan to the upbeat tunes of the Sandeep Chowtha-composed Kambakth ishq.

It must be said that some portions of the song picturisation were blatantly copied from pop star Madonna's Human nature music video. Even so, Kambakth ishq was a hit. So was Urmila.
