In those days, even though there was a Sikh king ruling Punjab (Ranjit Singh), the style of architecture was essentially Mughal. This is because Punjab was the door to invaders. And they [the invaders] always left a piece of themselves behind.

Sappel got his props, costumes and materials from Punjab. He says, "In those days, clothes were named after actresses. Like Suraiya ki kapda!"
