Paresh Rawal
Paresh Rawal has no complaints
The actor now wants a script to direct

The 'hero' of Priyadarshan's Hera Pheri and Vikram Bhatt's Awaara Pagal Deewana, Paresh Rawal does his comic roles with elan.

Now, the actor wants to shift to direction and production. He discusses theatre and his plans to direct a film with Vijay Singh:

Do you have a dream role?

No. I enjoy doing all types of role, small or big.

Directors know my importance in the film and make film accordingly. Of course, many times, they neglect me too. The most important part is that we need good scripts. Where do we find them?

Is it true that you are planing to direct a film for Firoz Nadiadwala?

I do want to direct a film, but it has been delayed because I don't have good script. Firoz Nadiadwala is a close friend; he was the first person who asked me to direct a film for him. I would like to have him as my producer for my directorial debut.

As of now, I have my own production house, which produces films and television serials in India.

MORE INTERVIEWS...

What do you say about the fact that most of your films are doing well only because of you?

No. A film's success depends on whole team. Every character of the film has different role and work. What Akshay Kumar can do I cannot and vice versa. Everybody has their own importance in the film.

Maybe it is time directors gave you the lead role?

Yes, I agree! I'm sure this will help them make more profit. I will try to fulfill the director's expectation.

To what extent is the physical appearance important to an actor or actress?

For an artiste, it doesn't make any difference. If I get a role of Thakur, it not mean that I have to have a broad chest. Actors emote. You can be a singer or daaku [dacoit], whatever you want.

Is it true that theatre actors do not get proper justice in the film industry and so they turn to stage? Naseeruddin Shah had said that once.

It does not hold true for me. Theatre actors, turn to theatre because we begin there and get full satisfaction there. Theatre helps us improve our acting skills. Good actors like Shah do not get satisfaction in our film industry. Except theatre, there is no medium which can satisfy good artistes in India.

But I don't complain. I do theatre for my personal satisfaction and enjoyment. Good roles in films is my demand, not my complaint. I don't have any complaints against Bollywood.
