Sony on Wednesday became the latest entrant to join the sub-10,000 range smartphone market with the launch of entry level Xperia Tipo phone.

"Mobile has been an integral part of the brand's growth in India and we are working together to deliver products that are relevant for Indian consumers," Sony India managing director Kenichiro Hibi told reporters in New Delhi.

At Rs 9,999, Tipo is the cheapest phone from Xperia series.

The company plans 6-8 new models in six months across price bands, which may include a few in the sub-10,000 category.

Hibi said this year, the company would try to achieve a growth of 45 per cent for Sony India while for mobile, the growth could be over 50 per cent.

"In six months, we will be launching six to eight devices across price bands," Sony Mobile Communications (India) head-marketing Prasun Kumar said.

The phone is available in single and dual SIM versions.

Vodafone subscribers will get an exclusive offer -- 500MB free data per month for 3 months.
