MNP requests cross 38 lakhs in Feb

The number of unsatisfied mobile phone users crossed 38 lakhs (3.8 million) by end of February, with Gujarat reporting the highest number of customers willing to change their service providers through mobile number portability service.

As per the data reported by the service providers to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, by the end of February 2011, about 38.33 lakh (3.83 million) subscribers have submitted their requests to different service providers for porting (shifting) their mobile number.

Out of these requests about 320,000 pertains to Haryana where MNP was implemented from November 25, 2010.

In rest of the country, in MNP Zone-1 (Northern and Western India) maximum number of requests have been received in Gujarat (365,000) followed by Rajasthan with 314,000 requests, said the Trai statement.

In MNP Zone-2 (Southern and Eastern India) maximum number of requests have been received in Karnataka (318,000) followed by Tamil Nadu Service area (276,000).

Telecom service providers in Jammu and Kashmir circle received only 1,291 request for changing service provider.
