Mumbai's T2 terminal to start flight operations from Feb 12

Mumbai Airport said it is all geared up to commence international flight operations from the recently inaugurated T2 (Terminal 2) at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport from Wednesday.

The transition of all international flights from the existing terminal to the T2 will begin with the arrival of the Air India flight from Singapore (AI-343) scheduled at 1300 hours on February 12, Mumbai International Airport (MIAL) said.

However, private carrier Jet Airways' London-Heathrow service will be the first flight to take off from the new terminal at 1320 hours, for which check-in counters will open at 0920 hours, it said.

According to the private airport operator, all international flights departing before 1 p.m. will be from the old terminal and all departures after 1 p.m. will be from the new Terminal 2.

Similarly, flights arriving before 12 noon will be at the old terminal and all arrivals after 12 noon will be at the new Terminal 2, the release said, adding that the old terminal will be closed for operations from 2 pm onwards.

Domestic terminal flights and transfers will not have any impact of this transition, it added.

During the last few weeks since its inauguration, the terminal underwent a comprehensive security sweep as well as the final stages of ORAT (Operational Readiness Activation and Transition).

As part of the ORAT process, GVK-MIAL also undertook familiarisation processes for airlines, ground-handling staff, security, customs, immigration and MIAL employees to help get them acquainted with the terminal building, new technologically-advanced systems, facilities and processes for smooth and seamless transition of all stakeholders from old international terminal to the new integrated T2, according to the MIAL release.
