The Bombay Arts Society building is finally open for public. The newly constructed building is located in Bandra.

Established in 1800s, the Bombay Art Society was based in JehangirArtGallery and has been serving art and artists ever since.

The famous architect Sanjay Puri has designed the building. Within an extremely small plot measuring only 1,300 square metres; the architect has created a fully fluid area to fit the clients’ requirements.

There are several things that make the Bombay Arts Society a special project. It is the only public building to be opened up in Mumbai in recent times, a space that will solely be dedicated to the arts and art community.

This building is an inspiration from the Cubist sculptures and resembles European expressionist architecture, which will house three galleries, a small auditorium for lectures and talks, a cafe and an office.

To create an illusion of the space, Sanjay puri used a wire mesh for the structure of the building so there are no straight beams that run directly from the top to the bottom of the building. The idea was to allow flow of movement inside, which is why the building has no corners.
