Italy shows off its new high-speed train

Italian operator Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (NTV) launched its new high-speed trains called .Italo on December 13 at Nola, northwest of Naples.

Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori is Europe's first private open access operator of 300 km/hr high speed trains.

NTV was created by four Italian businessmen to compete with Trenitalia. French state railway SNCF has a 20 per cent stake in NTV.

The test run for the NTV AGV started in December 2010. All coaches have leather seats and free wi-fi.

One of coaches will have movie screens. The coaches have advanced satellite communication systems for live TV.

Italo is based on the latest Alstom AGV technology in terms of high speed train, features a system of locomotion distributed throughout the different cars of the train, rather than being in the front and back locomotives.

The structural architecture eliminates onboard vibration and noise and guaranteeing maximum safety, in addition to reducing maintenance costs by 15 per cent.

It has been possible to make the Italo by lighter by about 70 tonnes. It reduces energy consumption reduced by 15 per cent.
