Aston Martin's Rapide

Spotting a Mercedes or a BMW on the Indian roads was a rare thing until a few years back.

But today these car makers are selling hundreds of units in India.

Even the ultra luxury carmakers like Porsche and Bentley have also been launching new models in the country.

The recent carmaker to join this bandwagon is Britain's luxury car brand Aston Martin.

The company is planning to launch its Rapide in India by the end of this year.

As per the company, it is the perfect car to enter the Indian market.

Interior of Rapide.

The Aston Martin Rapide is a four-door, four-seater with good boot capacity.

This all new sports car is powered by a 6-litre V12 unit that is capable of producing 469 bhp at 6000 rpm and 61.24 kgm torque.

So much punch enables the Rapide to do the 0-100kph run in 4.9 sec and it can go to a top speed of 296 kph.

The Rapide has a unique design as it has some features of a saloon, but performs like a sports car.

The car approximately costs Rs 2 crore (Rs 200 million).

It has 20-inch alloy wheels, grain leather interior with walnut finish on top of the centre console and customised materials and upholstery schemes that lend the car its very essential exclusivity.

Aston Martin uses aluminum VH (vertical horizontal) body structure that is immensely strong and easily adaptable.

The car weighs about two tonnes.

But the use of aluminium makes repairing difficult and very expensive. This factor has the potential to act as a deterrent.

As per a leading auto magazine, Aston Martin is also planning to bring the DBS, the DB9 and the Vantage to the Indian shores.

Initially, the cars would be sold through dealers in Delhi and Mumbai.

The DB9 with the same engine and chassis does the 0-100 kph sprint little faster than Rapide but it lacks the space that Rapide offers.

It is estimated to cost about Rs 1.7 crore (Rs 170 million).

The Vantage comes with a V8, 4.8-litre alloy engine and a price tag of Rs 1.28 crore (Rs 128 million) and Rs 1.94 crore (Rs 194 million) for the V12.
