India's leading software company, Wipro Limited, on Wednesday said it was looking at setting up an offshore business process outsourcing centre in one of the Asia-Pacific countries.

"We are looking at some offshore offices within the Asia-Pacific and currently tapping ground in five countries," Wipro Spectramind CEO Raman Roy said.

Declining to name the country, Roy said Wipro's last board meeting had received some details on the proposed offshore centre and more information was expected in a month's time after which a formal announcement would be made.

Asked whether the country was Malaysia, he said: "I cannot name the country. It could be any of the Asia-Pacific countries."

"The offshore centre will be in operation within six months of our announcement," he said.

Wipro, which has five development centres in India at Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Navi Mumbai, would also set up one in Kolkata.

"We have already started construction work at Kolkata, which is likely to be completed by December this year, and hope to begin with by the end of the current financial year," said Roy.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the Indian Chamber of Commerce organised Workshop on BPO: Challenges and Opportunities.
