Trend Micro Inc, an anti-virus and Internet content security software firm, has launched its Network Viruswall 2500 in India that aims to help corporates protect their networks from network worms.

"We had launched Network Viruswall in other parts of the world during late last year and we are now launching it in India," its global product marketing manager Malav Patel said in Chennai on Monday.

Trend Micro Network VirusWall 2500 is a family of outbreak prevention appliances that protects local area networks, branch office networks, multiple network segments and servers of mission critical appliances from network worms, he said.

The launch of this viruswall comes in the wake of the emergence of network worms, which are estimated to have caused damages of over $11 billion between and February and May 2004 across the globe, he added.

Network worms, like Sasser and MSBlaster, exploit the vulnerabilities to infect hosts and servers across networks.

He said during 2005, Trend Micro hoped to sell the product to hundreds of medium and large enterprises in India. "In 2006, we are looking at thousands of firms in India which would use our product to protect their networks," he said.
