With the foreign apparel market looking towards India to meet its requirements in the post-quota period, the Apparel Export Promotion Council will be organising mega shows in the United States in June.

With the theme being 'Sourcing Expo: India Apparel,' a two-day show would be held in Dallas from June 4 and another two-day show at New York from June 9, AEPC Chairman, A Shaktivel told reporters at Tirupur, about 50 km from Coimbatore, on Monday.

Stating that about 50 buyers were expected in Dallas and 15 to 200 in New York, he said that 75 exhibitors from India, of which 20 are from Tirupur, would be showcasing their products at these shows.

India has a vital role to play in the garment market from 2005, when there would be no quotas, Shaktivel said, adding that India has inbuilt strength in the availability of raw material like cotton and synthetic fibre, compared to competing nations like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand and Indonesia, which were importing these fibres.

India also has the advantage of entrepreneurship skill, like personalised management and quality and maintaining a strict delivery schedule, Shaktivel said.

Stating that AEPC had already engaged an agency in Rotterdam to open a warehouse, which would become operational by January 2005, he said orders and supplies would be made online by connecting Tirupur. Depending on the success, another warehouse would be opened in the US, Shaktivel said.
