UK India Business Council condemns Mumbai attacks

November 28, 2008 09:22 IST

Condemning the terror attacks on Mumbai as a cowardly act, the UK India Business Council has said that the strikes have taken terrorism in India to a whole new level.

"This is a cowardly attack on India's stability, peace, economic growth and democracy. We are shocked by the acts of terrorism aimed at destabilising a strong, fast growing nation," the Council said in a statement.

"Our thoughts are first and foremost with the victims. Mumbai has experienced terrorism in the past and has always bounced back. It is sad reality that the shadow of terrorism is always going to be with us, but India can and will recover from this," it said.

The Council said: "India is a huge country and this incident is currently confined to Mumbai. We are taking advice from the Foreign Office. For other parts of India it is business as usual."

"The UK and India have strong historical ties and we here are focused on building even stronger trade and business links with India. By attacking the financial capital of India, the terrorists are trying to undermine the stability of the nation. They must not win and we must continue to strengthen our partnerships with India."
