The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 30 points at 20,903. But, weakness in overseas markets saw the index soon slip into the negative zone. The index dropped to a low of 20,701 - down 202 points from the day's open.

Fresh buying at lower levels helped the index recoup losses and rebound into the positive zone. The buying momentum was so strong that the index rallied past the 21,000-mark to hit a fresh all-time intra-day high of 21,113 - up 413 points from the day's low.

Pundits have predicted that the Sensex will cross 27,000-mark. So should you hold on to your portfolio or sale? What should be your investment strategy? Stock market expert Pranav Sanghavi answers some of your queries.

PRANAV SANGHAVI says, Good afternoon and hello everyone. Welcome to the chat and let's begin.

amit asked, can one remain invested in infosys & TCS right now or shd sell them off and invest the amount in other scrips
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I would remain invested till the results. If there is a rally I owuld use it to exit. As I dont' see hitting new highs very soon.
wewe asked, wat abt dlf
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I rate DLF a buy even at these rates. A couple of months back when the markets had corrected I had recommended a buy at around 550 levels. I would still rate it a buy and I expect good results for December quarter as well as March 08 results.
anish thakurgota asked, hello sir. I've got gvc films, whirlpool india, gangotri iron &steel and ikf technologies.I am keeping this for short term. So, Now what to do? Do i need to hold them or sell them off ?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers,  at 2008-01-09 16:02:57Hello Anish. It depends on your profit target. If you are making the profit thenI would advise you to book the profit and invest in quality frontline growth stocks.
anish thakurgota asked, Hello Sir! I ve no idea about mutual funds and how to deal with them? Can you please send me some information regarding mutual funds and good investment options?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Do send me an email with your contact details and I shall send out some information.
karan asked, Hi Pranav, Good Afternoon please give your thoughts on how many shares of Reliance power should a retail investor apply for, in order to get some/max number of shares allotted.
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Hi Karan. Rel Power looks to be oversubscribed heavily. So put in the maximum limit allowed and hope for the best. They are enticing the retail segment as they need to put in only 25% of the value of shares applied for.
karan asked, the markets are again at historic highs, do you see any stocks undervalued at this point. if yes name the most promising ones which you feel will do well in future in the long term.
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, There are a lot of stocks who are lagging behind in terms of valuations. You will have to look at the second tier of stocks for the same as most of the frontline are fiarly valued.
rahul asked, Hi, I hv bought Varunu Shipping India @ 89 and Deccan Chronicle Holdings @215. Is it a good scripts to hold on. What will be appreciation in 3 to 6 months.
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Shipping is a cyclical sector but it has maintained its up curve for some time now and looks to hold on. Varun has also made some new acquisition and are also raising fresh funds. I would hold on. Deccan Chronicle I don't follow.
pp asked, hi sir what is regsion that sah petro is going down and down
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Sah Petro is a lubricant stock. They work on margins between the cost of raw material being crude oil and its derivatives and its fdinished products being lubricants. The lubricants price is not rising as fast as the crude oil oprices are rising. Therefore there could be some possibility of margin shrinkage which could be leading the stock down.
pp asked, i have ashok lay 7200 @ 50 what i should do
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I would hold on as a long term play. Beyond another 6 months when the interest come down marginally the CV segment should get some further boost.
akkyboy asked, what is your idea on sotkcs like gmr infra , rel petro for short to medium term
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Fine thank you. I am bullish on GMR Infra witha medium to longer term outlook. THey have some good projects on hand and the parent has displayed its ability to complete large projects. RPL is a hold for sure with a 1 to 2 year outlook. You should substantial gains on the stock even from current levels.
danes asked, hello sir. what is your opinion on lloyd steel?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Not much. I would exit.
Ram asked, Tell me about SIP Mutual fund
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, An SIP MF is nothing but a fund that allows you to make regular investments. SIP stands for Systematic Investment Planning. Its a great way to save in small amounts for a long term. It also nullifies the volatility of markets.
sandeshn asked, Hi Pranav, I have brought Hinalco 214.75 & IFCL 97.50 on 1st Jan 2008. Should I hold for two months
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Yes surely. You can hold on to Hindalco for another 2 years.
danes asked, Hello pranav, How do you exit when the shares hit lower circuit everyday?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, There is an option to put a trade till end of settlement. You could try putting an order with that option. But most probably on lower circuits it is difficult to sell.
rohitr asked, your take on ispat industries pls.. i took 10000 shares at 75.79..should i book loss? or hold? thanks
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, You have got in closer to the highs. You will have to hold on for some more time before you see your price. But you could exit once in profit and look at better stocks.
arvind asked, All Broking companies are said LIC Hosuing will reach Rs.420 I have purchased the share @377 now the share running @367
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, LIC housing will get a boost once the interest rates come down a bit. The banks have already made a concious decision to reduce housing loan rates even though the central government has not yet reduced interest rates. So beyond 6 to 12 months LIC hsg. looks like a good hold.
Ravin asked, I would like to purchase some banking stocks whether it is the right time
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Yes especially all the midcap public sector banks look good for short to medium term invesment.
raviii asked, Hi sir wht is mean trade to trade & some stocks r in t2t group whts the logic behind tht....?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Certain stocks due to irregular trading activity get shifted to the T2T segment on the exchange. Basically all trades even squared off trades result in delivery. Like if you buy 100 shares and sell them a bit later on the same day, you will have to give delivery of the sale stocks and take delivery of the purchase stocks.
Nilesh asked, I have Noida Toll, Vijaya Bank and Nocil, What is the future?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Noida TOll is giving decent results and looks to continue giving the same. But they are also looking to develop some land near the Gurgoan expressway and that could result in some value appreciation in the scrip.
raviii asked, hi sir i hve gujrat state petrolium ltd 100 shares @ 97 whts feauture of this company i can hold this share for 1 year....thx?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Yes you could continue to hold on.

PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Write to the company and ask the promoters to buy it back.
shr asked, Future Capital IPO- what do you suggest
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I would look to invest. They have a strong management and have picked up some people from GOldman Sachs and other leading institutions from overseas. Also, they have made some good investments which should yeild returns over the next few years.
ansal properties asked, I have 30 shares of Ansal properties @ 420. what is the target price of Ansal properties?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I wont be able to give you a target as I am not a technical analyst. But you could surely look at returns of over 40% on the stock in a years time.

PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I would like to buy on dips.

PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Everst Kanto is one of the largest players in the cylinder market in the country. They also have some exports and have given fantastic results over the past few quarters and look to continue doing so. I would surely hold on. Jindal and Marg are good holds. Marg looks to cross the Rs. 1,000 mark soon.
SANJEEV asked, WHAT ABOUT LT?
